בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א
In the beginning

אֱלֹהִ֑ים
of God's creation

אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם והָאָֽרֶץ
of the heavens and the earth

וְהָאָ֗רֶץ הָֽיְתָ֥ה
Now the earth was

תֹ֨הוּ֙ וָבֹ֔הוּ
astonishingly empty

וְח֖שֶׁךְ עַל-פְּנֵ֣י תְה֑וֹם
and darkness was on the face of the deep,

וְר֣וּחַ אֱלֹהִ֔ים
and the spirit of God

מְרַחֶ֖פֶת
was hovering

עַל-פְּנֵ֥י הַמָּֽיִם:
over the face of the water

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֱלֹהִ֖ים יְהִ֣י א֑וֹר
And God said, "Let there be light,"

וַיַּ֥רְא אֱלֹהִ֖ים כִּי-טֽוֹב
And God saw that it was good


וְיִקְרָא לרְקִיעַ
And God called the skies

שָׁמַיִם,
Heaven


ליבֵשָׁה אֶרֶץ
the dry land Earth

וְלַמַּיִם יָמִים
and the gathering of the waters, Seas

מדֶּשֶׁא אֶת הַדֶּשֶׁא,
He made the green grass

עֵצִים מְלַבְלְבִים,
and flourishing trees

וּבָרָא אֶת הַשֶּׁמֶשׁ
And created the Sun

וְאֶת הַיָּרֵחַ
And the moon

וְאֶת כָּל הַדָּגִים
And the fish

וְהַתַּנִּינִים,
And the large sea creatures

וְאֶת הָעוֹפוֹת וְהַנְּחָשִׁים
The birds and the snakes

וְיִבְרָא אֱלֹהִים אִישׁ וְאִשָּׁה,
And God created man and woman

וִירֵא כִּי טוֹב מְאֹד
And God saw the it was very good

וירֵא כִּי טוֹב,
And it was good

וירֵא כִּי טוֹב,
He saw it was good

הוּא רָאָה כִּי טוֹב מְאֹד
He saw it was very good.


וַיְכֻלּ֛וּ
Now it was completed

הַשָּׁמַ֥יִם
The Heaven

וְהָאָ֖רֶץ
The Earth

וְכָל-צְבָאָֽם:
And all their host

וַיְכַ֤ל אֱלֹהִים֙
And God completed

בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י
On the seventh day

מְלַאכְתּ֖וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה
All the work which he had made

וַיִּשְׁבֹּת֙
And he rested

בַּיּ֣וֹם הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י
On the seventh day

מִכָּל-מְלַאכְתּ֖וֹ אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשָֽׂה:
From all the work which he had made

כִּ֣י ב֤וֹ שָׁבַת֙
Because that in it he rested

מִכָּל-מְלַאכְתּ֔וֹ
From all the work

אֲשֶׁר-בָּרָ֥א אֱלֹהִ֖ים לַֽעֲשֽׂוֹת:
That he himself created to do.

וירֵא כִּי טוֹב,
וירֵא כִּי טוֹב,
הוּא רָאָה כִּי טוֹב מְאֹד
וירֵא כִּי טוֹב,
